Interview with Denise Best
Dhylles Davis: Who is Denise Best?
Denise Best: I am a daughter, a sister, a auntie, a friend and an entrepreneur
Dhylles: When did you realize you were born an accomplishment?
Denise: I think I was very fortunate because my mother always made me feel special and loved. Being the last in a very religious family, I was always encouraged to do my best, value myself, put God first and treat people they way I wanted to be treated. I’ve always known that God had a plan for me so I was in a way fearless, I had my family’s love and support, great friends and I also dating very nice respectable gentlemen, life was good.
Dhylles: When did you learn to heal and forgive yourself for past mistakes and regrets?
Denise: In 1998, my mother passed and everything else just unraveled. I was away the day my mother passed and I always wondered if she was proud of the woman I had become and the choices I have made. I became really pensive but then I started to wonder what did my mother want to do that she never had a chance to do? What dreams did she defer until a later date that never took place? And I realized tomorrow isn’t promised so I need to live my life and become someone that she could be proud of. I went back to school got my BA, I took classes for event and wedding planning because that was my passion and in 2005 I started Blissful Elegance Event. I won’t say that is has always been easy or that I always make the right decisions but every day I open my eyes is a new opportunity to get it right
Dhylles: What made you realize your value and worth?
Denise: I really can’t remember when I started volunteering and working with DeVoe Signature Events, Curvesity and Belle Noir and the confidence that those ladies had was empowering. They carried themselves with such dignity as well as grace and they believed that they were beautiful at any size and worthy of all that life had to offer that made me look at myself different.
Dhylles: Thanks so much for an enlightening interview Denise! All the best and much success to you!
