Dhylles Davis: Who is Latifah Abdur?
Latifah Abdur: Latifah Abdur is an energy that radiates to empower, inspire and motivate others. Raised by a single mother in Ithaca NY with her 7 siblings. Latifah learned value, discipline and hard work at a young age. After high school Latifah had no real game plan but immediately headed to New York City to find herself. Latifah enrolled in Beauty School where she discovered her passion for beauty and transformation, though it was no surprise considering her mother is a cosmetologist/Salon Owner. Throughout the years after graduating high school in 2005 Latifah has lent her skills and talents to cosmetic companies, designers, photographers, models and everyday women. She feels truly blessed to wake up every day and do what she loves. In effort to continue to grow and spread her love through her talents, Latifah self-taught herself photography and started her own business in 2013 as an Integrated Artist. Her business combines her Makeup Artistry, Photography and Personality to show women how uniquely beautiful they are from the inside out. This year Latifah is taken her mission to empower women to the next level. She is currently enrolled in NASM Personal Training Certification with specialization in Nutrition and Women’s Fitness and excited to continue to change lives.
Dhylles: When did you realize you were born an accomplishment?
Latifah: I realized I was born an accomplishment when I found something I was passionate about, which is empowering women. It is so natural for me to want to lift someone’s spirits, to be a person’s cheerleader, and a positive voice to inspire positive thoughts.
One of my favorite quotes from Dr. Maya Angelou is, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
That is my instant gratification to know that I made someone feel more confident and empowered.
(Yes Empowered is my favorite word)
Dhylles: In what ways have you dealt with hurt and healing that has happened to you in life?
Latifah: In life I learned that everything doesn’t always make sense but you can make sense out of how you deal with things. Though it was a process I chose not to dwell on the negative and realized how powerful I am. I am also fortunate to have amazing people around me that inspire and encourage me every day.
Dhylles: What was the most profound revelation in your life?
Latifah: The most profound revelation in my life is when I realized that success isn’t measured by dollar signs. Money can buy you nice things but it cannot buy you inner peace and happiness. When I decided to start my own business I had to remove the profit aspect aside and just focus on my why. I didn’t realize that my why of a mission to empower would continue to lead me towards riches I never imagined. I believe in myself which is the reason I am the women I am today.
Dhylles: When did you decide to forgive yourself for mistakes and regrets?
Latifah: I never lived my life in regret. I am not here to be perfect and I truly believe what may be deemed as regrets or mistakes fuel me to be the best I can be. I accept that life is a journey and situations and/or obstacles will occur. The decisions I made for the now of that time were in hopes to propel me towards my happiness. One thing is for certain I will continue to make mistakes because that is part of learning and personal growth. What I won’t come to is giving up I will never stop trying out of fear of the uncertain that is the only thing worth regret.
