Filmmaker and Freelance Content Producer
Bio: Before the lights, camera and action, Bernice Wooden came from humble beginnings. She was born and raised in the Red Hook Houses in South Brooklyn, New York. During 2006 she earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Mass Communications with a Minor in Theater from Lehman College. She later earned an M.F.A. Degree in Television Production from Brooklyn College in 2013.
Since 2007 Bernice Wooden has been producing video content for fortune 500 corporations such as Proctor & Gamble, Visa, MTV Network, The Publicity Office, Panasonic and GfK. As a result, she’s no stranger to big budget projects that also get big results. Such as when she garnered more than 1 million views for the “Visa Goal” YouTube campaign in 2009.
Ms. Wooden has been recognized for several other projects, but that comes as no surprise to those who know her. That’s because she injects her heart and soul into every effort, and it shows by the level of artistic quality she produces.
In fact, she’s been so successful that she has received the Spring 2013 Don Buchwald & Associates Grant, the Best Editor Award from Women Make Movies in 2013, and a Producer Award from the American Diabetes Association.
Ms. Wooden recognizes that much of her inspiration and motivation are from strong women in the television and film industry who preceded her. She says, “I am inspired by women like Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashād who create dynamic pieces of art through Film, TV and Theatre. They not only produce positive programming for the African American audience, they are some of the most highly skilled and influential women in the industry.”
She goes on to explain how dedicated she is to making the visual dreams of her viewers come true. She wants to produce television and film that will last a lifetime and be passed down from generation to generation. As an added bonus, she recently picked up the photography bug and she’s currently working on her first self-help book. Her current Summer 2015 producing line up includes: All-Star Karaoke with Patrick L. Riley, Goddess on the Go TV with Leora Edut and one of her biggest projects include producing a segment for the official announcement of HIllary Clinton’s Candidacy.
New ventures include her new business Be Nice Productions LLC., an 8-week workshop series which begins July 15th for aspiring Filmmakers, working as a Film Tech Manager at Brooklyn College, and completing 2 short films.
Interview with Bernice Wooden
Dhylles Davis: Who is Bernice Wooden?
Bernice Wooden: Bernice Wooden is a woman who lives in her truth. She admires goal getters, she surrounds herself with people who create change in the world and she loves to love and be loved.
Dhylles: When did you realize you were born an accomplishment?
Bernice: Wow! Starting at the age of 3. As I would climb the bathtub to watch myself brush my teeth, my mom would come into the bathroom every morning and make me repeat the following words in the mirror, “I am great, I am beautiful, I will be the best at everything I do, and I am blessed.” This went on for a year. Though we stopped doing it together, I carried on the tradition for years to come. It is quite healing when I feel anxiety or doubt. When I think about this exercise now, it is truly a manifestation about who I am in the present and how I see myself in the future.
Dhylles: What do you still feel you need to work on within yourself?
Bernice: I am still a work in progress when it comes to patience. Everyone in my circle knows that I have zero tolerance for certain behaviors and mannerisms but I truly have to breath and think, sometimes people do not know what they are doing so who am i to judge?
Dhylles: Describe your life journey in one sentence.
Bernice: From poverty to health and wealth.
Dhylles: How did you make your dreams become your reality?
Bernice: I believe in myself the most. Believe it or not, I am still dreaming! I am a HUGE believer in manifesting new goals and dreams EVERY DAY! Listen to this, I manifested me standing in front of a group of students teaching them filmmaking on a Tuesday and I released my filmmaker workshop series that Friday! The workshop series begins on July 15th in NYC.
Dhylles: Thanks so much for sharing Bernice!!
